GRIPS Management
GRIPS is a single-data-source solution that conceptually integrates all of the product information in the context of the product itself, in a document and a language neutral manner, stored as so-called "Information Units" in the GRIPS Management Module.
The managed information units can be used more than once and linked together to form a hierarchical information model.
The example shows an Information Model for a cookbook. The book is divided into different menus, which are compositions of dishes. Relevant information for a dish is its recipe, which explains its preparation. Therefore, all ingredients and appliances that have to be applied are indicated. A certain ingredient can be found in several recipes. In each individual recipe the ingredient is linked to a quantity specification whose information type is "Measurement". The information model also includes technical data of kitchen appliances. Each information type, except the one of "Measurement", can have a reference to a picture.
By linking units of information, redundancies can be avoided and information-related interconnections documented. This principle assists the originator with the processes of research and production and guarantees the user completeness of content of an information unit, e.g. in a publication. Content-related identification of the individual information components lends the database intelligence, without which automated subsequent processing (e.g. analysis, intelligent publication) would not be possible.
