GRIPS Publishing
The information units created and translated can be automatically delivered with the aid of various publication rule sets. Each rule set defines a particular organization of the content according to the target medium and the communication target (e.g. a specific target readership). That means not only that the formatting is adapted, but also that the structure of the content is rearranged.
Thus, for example, from the same selected information unit one publication rule set might produce a comprehensive printed document (e.g. an instruction manual) while another might produce browser pages in XML or HTML, and yet another, a data pool for a CD application, a fourth a context-sensitive online help file (*.chm) and a fifth exported data in a specific industry standard (e.g. DITA, S1000D, SCORM, etc.), for example for transfer of data to another system.
Due to the fact that the publication process takes place fully automatically, standardized documentation in terms of level of information, handling and adherence to corporate design and style sheets is ensured from a single-data-source:
Printed documentation and manuals
Interactive Electronic Technical Documentation (e.g. IETM class 1-5)
Web publications or CD-ROMs, DVD
Online help systems
Product/spare parts catalogs
Content for diagnostic systems or control desk displays
ASD S1000D, ATA iSpec 2200, DITA, DocBook, SAE J2008, SCORM, SPL/PRL, PIM etc.
GRIPS ensures that all publications are synchronized and current with other data systems for the particular product, whether it is an aerospace, agricultural, automotive, construction, consumer goods, defense, engineering, financial, machinery, medical, organizational, pharmaceutical, precision, software, or for any other manufactured products. In this manner, GRIPS helps organizations to synchronize cross-functional operations around current, accurate product information.
